Vista de San Juan de Oriente
2010
This mural was painted in Copavi, an artist cooperative and gallery in Managua. It depicts a scene from San Juan de Oriente, a small town in Nicaragua where 80% of the population makes ceramics using ancient techniques, kick wheels, and clay slips made using natural colorants. I was fortunate enough to meet a family there who allowed me to study with them and practice throwing ceramics on a kickwheel. This is a scene that I illustrated from memory of two boys playing baseball with a stick in the street.
