This house is made of clothing that I found on the streets and in the trash bins of Barcelona. As it hovers above the ground, you get the sense that this house is not stable. A strong gust of wind could easily shake the frame. I created this sculpture to confront the instability of the current financial situation. People all over the world are experiencing loss because of the crisis; loss of jobs, loss of homes, loss of hope. Clothes are a form of shelter protecting us from weather and dirt. This house created of discarded clothing exists to show the loss of this shelter. As an act of solidarity, I have cut pieces of my clothing to add to the house and I have asked others to volunteer to do the same. This symbolic act is a tangible display of empathy and grief during this time of loss.
